If your child has expressed an interest in becoming a Christian or taking the next step of faith by being baptized, it is an exciting time! Below we have great resources for you to walk through those conversations with them. Follow the steps below!
STEP TWO
Watch this video with your child to learn about the amazing story of God’s love. After viewing, use the guide to have a conversation with your child. Asking the provided questions will help you discern if your child understands what it means to become a follower of Jesus.
STEP THREE
If you sense your child has a basic understanding of what sin is as well as what it means to accept God’s gift of salvation and His Lordship, you can guide him or her to pray to receive Christ as Lord and Savior. Instead of quoting specific words for your child to repeat, it’s best to prompt them to use their own words. A sample prayer has been provided here and in the printable guide if you would like to refer to it.
Dear Heavenly Father,
I know I am a sinner. I know my sin should separate me from You forever. I believe Your son, Jesus, died for my sins. I accept Your forgiveness for my sin. Thank You for loving me and for giving the gift of Jesus so I could live with You in heaven. Come into my life and be my Savior and Friend.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
STEP FOUR
YOUR CHILD'S FINAL STEPS
KIDS NEXT STEP CLASS
If your 1st–5th grader has made the decision to follow Jesus, their next step is to attend our Kids Next Step Class before being baptized. This class helps kids understand the basics of their faith—salvation, prayer, evangelism, the Bible, and baptism—so they’re ready to take their next step with confidence. Each child also receives a special backpack filled with tools to help them grow in their walk with Jesus.
BAPTISM
Once your child has completed the Young Christians Class, the next step is to meet with a Kids Pastor to talk about baptism and how to get signed up. Baptism is a public expression of your child’s personal decision to follow Jesus. It doesn’t make them a Christian—it shows what God has already done in their heart. If you're not sure your child is ready, use the resources above to help guide a conversation about their faith.
