Day 06 | TUESDAY, AUGUST 26
Written by Carlos Erazo
AND THEY [THE ANGELS] WERE CALLING TO ONE ANOTHER: “HOLY, HOLY, HOLY IS THE LORD ALMIGHTY; THE WHOLE EARTH IS FULL OF HIS GLORY.”
ISAIAH 6:3
GOD IS HOLY, HOLY, HOLY
What would you say is the most important thing about you? Is it your job? Is it your family? Is it your net worth? Is it whether you’re happy? Is it what other people think of you?
The writer A.W. Tozer spoke about this once, and he said, “The most important thing about us is actually what comes into our minds when we think about God.”
Here’s why this matters:
If you think about anything that you’re wrestling with today, any issue, problem, challenge, obstacle, sin … whatever it is, it all traces back to forgetting or not understanding who God really is. Whatever image of God you hold will shape how you live, pray and respond to life.
Let me give you some examples.
• If today you are struggling with guilt, you need to be reminded of the grace of God.
• If you are struggling with always wanting to be in control, you need to be reminded of the sovereignty of God.
• If you are struggling with fear and anxiety, you need to be reminded of the faithfulness of God.
• If you are struggling with anger or frustration, you need to be reminded of the mercy of God.
I think we often miss out on going deeper in our relationship with God because we still haven’t fully grasped the holiness of God.
In the book of Isaiah, the prophet Isaiah has a vision of God high and exalted, seated on a throne surrounded by angels as they sing a song describing what they see. They say, “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD.”
In the Bible, every time you see repetition, it’s for emphasis. In this case, this word shows up three times. This is the loudest and boldest proclamation of something that is of utmost importance and of absolute truth. The angels can’t help but look at God and proclaim in His presence the words, “Holy, holy, holy.”
When they declare God is “holy,” they mean to declare God is set apart. Different. Transcendent. Sinless. Pure. Perfect. Beautiful. Majestic. Glorious. Worthy of praise.
Here’s what that means for you today:
• If God is holy, you are called to be holy too.
• If God is beautiful, you are invited to delight in Him.
• If God is glorious, He is worthy of your worship.
If you want to truly know God and experience His presence, you must deepen your understanding of His holiness. “Holy” is not just another word we use to describe God sometimes. It is who He is. Always.
PRAY
Father, today I praise you. You are holy, holy, holy. Lead me to find joy and delight as I worship you. Help me see you for who you really are, according to what your Word really says.
Let my mind be filled with your truth, your holiness, your glory, your beauty, and may everything I do today be an appropriate response to your holiness.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
