Day 13 | Tuesday, september 2
Written by Lakepointe Elder
Then the Lord came and stood and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!’’ And Samuel said, ‘‘Speak, for your servant is listening.”
1 samuel 3:10
the god who speaks
We often wonder, “Why isn’t God speaking to me?” But the better question might be, “Am I listening?”
In 1 Samuel 3, God calls out to the boy Samuel—not once, but multiple times. And Samuel doesn’t recognize His voice at first. It takes some help from Eli, and a heart that’s willing to respond, before Samuel is ready to say, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”
We live in a noisy world. Notifications, headlines, opinions, and endless entertainment all compete for our attention. And in that noise, it’s easy to miss the gentle voice of the Lord.
But God still speaks. Through Scripture. Through His Spirit. Through His people. The question is: Will we quiet our lives long enough to hear Him?
Consecration—which is part of what we’re doing over these 21 Days of Prayer—means tuning our ears to Heaven. It means creating space for the Spirit to speak and for us to respond with faith and obedience.
You don’t need to be a prophet to hear God’s voice. You need a posture of humility and expectancy, like Samuel.
As we continue this journey of prayer, ask God to speak to you. Ask Him to awaken your heart, to reveal what you’ve missed and to give you ears to hear. But more than that, be ready to respond.
PRAY
Lord, speak. I am listening. Help me to silence the noise around me and within me so I can hear you clearly.
Thank you that you still speak today. I want to know your voice. Teach me to recognize it, to trust it and to obey it. .
In Jesus’ name, amen.
